Tube Fittings and Adapters

A tube adapter connects two tubing sections or systems with different end configurations, sizes, or thread types. Adapters allow compatibility between components from different manufacturers or standards, such as converting a compression fitting to NPT thread, enabling flexible system design in instrumentation, hydraulic, and process control applications.

Tube connections generally include compression, flare, welded, and threaded connections. Compression connections use ferrules compressed onto the tube for a mechanical seal, flare connections form a cone-shaped seal, welded connections are permanent and leak-proof, and threaded connections allow for repeated assembly and disassembly in maintenance-heavy environments.

The four primary fitting types are compression fittings, flare fittings, threaded fittings, and welded fittings. Compression and flare fittings are common in instrumentation tubing for their reusable, leak-tight seals, while threaded fittings suit systems requiring frequent maintenance, and welded fittings provide permanent, high-integrity connections for critical process lines.

Tube connectors include unions, elbows, tees, crosses, and reducers, each designed to route or transition tubing within a fluid system. These connectors are manufactured from high-performance alloys to maintain leak-tight integrity under high pressure and temperature, commonly used in oil and gas, chemical processing, and instrumentation systems.

Tubing is typically inserted into the fitting body, then a nut is tightened over ferrules that compress onto the tube surface, forming a mechanical seal. Proper connection requires clean, square-cut tube ends and correct torque application to ensure a leak-tight joint capable of withstanding high-pressure, high-temperature industrial conditions.
