High Performance Greases

High speed bearings require lightweight greases with low base oil viscosity and excellent mechanical stability to prevent overheating and churning losses. Synthetic-based high performance greases with good oxidation resistance and a high speed factor rating are generally recommended for these applications, particularly in production and rotating equipment.

High performance greases are typically formulated to operate reliably across a wide temperature range, often from sub-zero conditions up to 400°F or higher, depending on the base oil and thickener system. Always check the manufacturer's dropping point and operating range specifications before selecting a grease for extreme environments.

Re-greasing intervals depend on operating conditions, load, speed, and environmental exposure, but general industrial guidelines recommend inspection and replenishment every 500 to 2,000 operating hours. Heavy equipment in drilling or production environments may require more frequent application due to contamination and extreme pressure.

Extreme pressure (EP) grease contains additives designed to withstand heavy loads and prevent metal-to-metal contact under high pressure, making it suitable for drilling and heavy machinery. Standard grease lacks these additives and is better suited for lighter-duty, lower-load applications.

Many high performance greases are formulated with water-resistant and corrosion-inhibiting properties, making them suitable for wet or corrosive oilfield and industrial environments. Confirm the product's water washout resistance and corrosion protection rating before use in such conditions.

Selecting the right grease requires matching viscosity, thickener type, and additive package to your equipment's load, speed, and temperature requirements.
